Miss Laura Steeples is a full-time Consultant Ophthalmologist and Uveitis Specialist at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.
Laura Steeples - Consultant Ophthalmologist and Uveitis Specialist at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.Laura undertook two years of sub-specialist training in Uveitis at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital (MREH) and Bristol Eye Hospital. She completed seven years of speciality training in the North West and MREH and was awarded the Harcourt Medal in 2014, for the highest mark in the Royal College of Ophthalmologist FRCOphth examinations.
She provides tertiary uveitis care for adult and paediatric patients in the North West and beyond. She has extensive expertise in the management of uveitis including use of steroids, immunosuppression, biologic therapy and local treatments including steroid injections and implants. She provides care for patients with acute and chronic uveitis and is highly experienced in the management of complications of uveitis. She leads the cataract surgery service for patients with uveitis in MREH. She participates in multidisciplinary care with adult and paediatric rheumatologists and works closely with relevant medical specialities for patients with associated systemic disease. The uveitis service is internationally recognised and runs a fellowship programme attracting doctors from all around the world.
In MREH she provides general ophthalmology care and adult cataract surgery including an operating list at MREH cataract centre.
She is an honorary lecturer at the University of Manchester and trains speciality doctors and international fellows in uveitis, general ophthalmology and cataract surgery. Laura is actively involved in research including clinical trials in uveitis. She regularly presents at national and international meetings including the largest uveitis conferences, Royal College of Ophthalmologists congress and the European Society of Retina Specialists meetings. Laura has 35+ publications in peer-reviewed journals plus contributions to textbooks and is a reviewer for major ophthalmic journals. She is a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Quality and Safety group and has served as an expert uveitis advisor to National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the Medicine and Health Regulatory Authority (MHRA).
