I qualified as a Psychologist/Social Worker in South Africa (BA.Hon.) in 1996, when I joined the National Crime and Reintegration Service (NICRO) in South Africa, working with young people and their families who committed petty crime. I also worked with victims of offenders as well as the offenders. When I moved to England in 2002 I worked for the Local Authority as a Child Protection Social Worker and then did a Masters Degree through The University of South Africa in Psychology with specific focus on Gestalt Play Therapy and Gestalt Psychotherapy. This focus of study moved me into The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) working with children/young people and their families where I have been working since 2005. I joined a Systemic Family Therapy team to further build on my skills and started a second Masters Degree, an MSc in Systemic, Couple and Family Psychotherapy through The University of Bedfordshire that I completed in 2012. Alongside this, I have also developed my private practice working with people of all ages with a wide range of presenting concerns. My interest has broadened and I have started my Doctorate study in Systemic, Couple and Family Psychotherapy through The Tavistock, University of Essex in 2015 and is on track to finish my Doctorate in April 2022. The focus of my study is on gender, power, the use of language and my analysis is a critical discourse analysis, looking into contemporary male gender issues. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is a fundamental aspect in treatment and I take a warm and non judgemental approach with clients, while working towards meeting each individual's goals.
