About me

Rajesh R Deshmukh is a Consultant Eye Surgeon with world-renowned Moorfields eye hospital, London.

Having completed his Ophthalmology training from Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and the University eye hospital in Bristol, he was awarded specialist registration in Ophthalmology by General Medical Council (GMC), UK. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologist of London, the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow and the International Council of Ophthalmology.

He has undertaken sub-speciality Fellowship training in the field of Cataract surgery from Moorfields Eye Hospital London and in the field of Retinal disorders from University Eye Hospital Bristol.

His researched involved treatment of proliferative diabetic retinopathy with laser pan-retinal photocoagulation.He has electively worked as a facilitator for World Health Organisation (WHO) and conducted teaching workshops in four out of five regions in Sultanate of Oman and trained 40 general ophthalmologists and 45 allied health care professionals in screening, grading and treatment of diabetic retinopathy. He also helped in setting up of referral pathways for the national health programme in the management of Diabetic Retinopathy in Sultanate of Oman.

He is an expert cataract surgeon and has trained many Ophthalmologists in cataract surgery since 2013. Being a high-volume cataract surgeon, he performs more than 1000 cataract surgeries annually with complication rate (PCR) less than 0.5% as opposed to 2 %, which is a national benchmark.

He also specialises in Medical Retinal disorders and leads Diabetic Retinopathy services for Moorfields at Darent Valley hospital in Kent.
