About me

About me
Hi, welcome to my page, I fully appreciate how daunting it must be to find yourself here and looking for some help. I work with individuals and couples.
Work with individuals
I work with individuals (from age 16), working with anxiety, low mood and depression, identity issues, low self esteem, stress, emptiness, sadness, loss, grief and bereavement, relationship and family difficulties including communication skills, cultural issues, anger management, health concerns, work issues including stress and redundancy, sexuality, trauma and abuse, and suicidal thoughts.
My frame is humanistic using Transactional Analysis which uses different models of how to work that best suit your situation.
Often, when we feel empty, stuck, low or are experiencing struggles in our personal or work life we may think about coming to counselling. We may have developed patterns of relating that are unhelpful and leave us unfulfilled and unhappy or ill at ease.

Therapy enables you to consider what the issues maybe, to explore how you think and feel about them and to uncover how you relate to others and indeed to life. It provides a new focus and reflective space to gain awareness and insight into your processes and to provide you with support and growth. It is a safe place to experiment to enable you to have choices and options going forward.
I respect each individual's unique experience. Our work will be to explore and uncover it's meaning working together.
Transactional analysis is a theory about personality that enables us working together to understand how you maybe relating to others, the patterns that you may have developed and to gain insight and awareness. It is also a theory about communication so as to raise your own understanding of how you come across to others and to help you to say the things that you might find challenging so as to improve your situation.

My work is empathic and compassionate and above all non judgmental. I work relationally so I will keeping a close eye on how we relate with each other and the unconscious dynamics that come into play between us.
I will work with you for a time limited period or open ended and we can discuss this when we meet and agree what works for you.
I understand how to take that initial step maybe daunting so I usually suggest a free telephone call to see how we may work together. It is very much a two way process as you need to be comfortable with me too.
I am happy to discuss with you before you commit to coming as I understand how it is to initiate something that you are unsure of. However, it is the first step to looking after yourself. Let's start the conversation.
Couples work
In my work with couples I want to hear from you both to gain an understanding of the relationship as that is my client for therapy. How can we work together to foster better communication and understanding between the two of you? That is the key. After our initial meeting I may suggest a one-off meeting with one or other of you as well to grasp the issues of relating that maybe troubling you.

Way in which I work
Generally people are unclear and unsure about a lot of things including counselling at the start.
I usually ask that after the first session and our mutual agreement to work together that you commit for an initial period which maybe 6 -8 sessions as funded. That maybe enough but during that time we will be exploring the issues that have led to your coming and to see if they can be resolved, worked through, and understood.
We will then decide if a longer term or open ended therapy is right for you. Others maybe looking to working open ended to find support in this increasingly isolated world we live in.

The session will usually be at the same time on the same day of the week for 50 minutes with individuals or couples.Research has shown that weekly counselling is hugely beneficial due to it's cumulative effect hence the emphasis on a regular meeting each week.
I start and end sessions on time.
