Clinical Psychologist in Cornwall

Welcome, thank you for visiting my website. I appreciate that making a choice of a therapist can be a very difficult one, especially at critical times, so provide information below. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you want to know more. I am currently offering video and telephone sessions only, until further notice.

I am a chartered clinical psychologist and registered psychodynamic psychotherapist, with over 25 years of professional NHS experience, supporting adults to develop their psychological well being.

Experience

This has been mostly as a senior and lead clinician (Principal Clinical Psychologist) in community teams, psychological therapies services, and in-patient units. I have worked with the whole range of adult psychological problems, including the most complex and enduring. I therefore bring a high level of professional training, skills, and many years of experience to any work with you. I practice with integrity and dedication to help you achieve your goals or find relief from distressing symptoms. I am highly experienced in delivering both brief and extended psychotherapy, and in supervising other professionals. For the last five year I have worked in private practice, but also still offer therapy to some NHS clients and staff.

Therapies/Training

My training and experience have given me an in-depth knowledge of a range of psychological theories and therapeutic approaches, so I can meet your needs flexibly and effectively. In addition to Clinical Psychology training, I have undertaken futher rigorous training as a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist, at the renowned Tavistock Clinic, and went on to lead an NHS psychodynamic therapy service. I have extensive experience of using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and have published articles within this field. In addition, I am experienced in using a therapy called Mentalisation Based Therapy (MBT), and again led a clinical service using this approach. The above approaches are foremost evidenced based therapies recommended by The National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE), so have demonstrated their effectiveness in research trials.

Professional Development

I have been dedicated to developing my practice throughout my career and work within the ethical frameworks of the professional organisations I belong to. To comply with these memberships and maintain the highest quality of care, I have regular clinical supervision of my work: both individually and in senior level peer groups.
