I qualified from Manchester University. I trained in Liverpool, London and Edinburgh. I completed my specialist training in Cardiology and General Internal Medicine in Manchester. I spent a year in Canada as a Fellow in interventional Cardiology.

Endocarditis; Cardiomyopathy; Heart failure; Echocardiography; 3D TRANSOESOPHAGEAL ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY; ACUTE CORONARY SYNDROMES.

I have been a Consultant Cardiologist at Wirral University Teaching Hospital since 2001.
In addition to my clinical role I am also active in teaching and training. I have a large interest in clinical research.
My work on cardiac Troponins is internationally recognised. It has also recently been incorporated in NICE guidelines for the diagnosis of myocardial infarction.
My other major interest is in vascular ultrasound during pacemaker implantation.
My third interest is in the field of Endocarditis.
In 2013 my work on ultrasound guided venous access during pacemaker implantation was nationally recognised. It was shortlisted for the BMJ Award in the category of improving patients' care.
In 2014 NICE requested permission for my work on cardiac Troponins to be used in its guidelines.
I was made a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology in 2015

I have several publications in major journals. I am most proud of this one.
Elevation of cardiac troponin T, but not cardiac troponin I, in patients with neuromuscular diseases: implications for the diagnosis of myocardial infarction.

I perfomed 365 coronary angiograms in 2014. There were no deaths, stroke or myocardial infarction.
From 2009 to 2014 I have implanted 248 pacemakers with ultrasound guidance. My results are unique. My pneumothorax rate is zero and my success rate in venous access is 99.6%.
