About me

I qualified as a clinical psychologist in 2004 and specialise in working with adults experiencing a range of mental health issues, relationship difficulties and emotional distress. I am experienced in offering both specific time-limited psychological interventions and longer-term psychological interventions. Compassion is at the heart of my work and I aim to create a therapeutic space where individuals genuinely experience being heard and understood.

My psychological treatment approach involves finding a shared understanding of an individual’s difficulties and tailoring psychological interventions to meet the specific needs of the individual. I use a range of psychological approaches to inform my work but primarily use a cognitive-behavioural approach. A cognitive-behavioural approach can enable individuals who find themselves ‘stuck’ in unhelpful ways of thinking, feeling and behaving to make positive changes and move forward with their lives.

Working in a range of settings (including the NHS, the Third Sector and University Student Wellbeing Services) has helped me to understand the diverse and unique nature of each individual’s life experiences and circumstances and how these contribute to their mental health issues, relationship difficulties and emotional distress. I am highly skilled at working collaboratively with individuals to identify and target the key factors that are maintaining their distress.

In addition to my clinical work, I have also led in the strategic planning, development and implementation of Clinical Psychology Services within Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Teams in the NHS, Mental Health Services in Newcastle University Student Wellbeing Service and a Substance Misuse Service for Turning Point.
