I’m a consultant cardiologist specialising in heart failure and complex device therapy. I see patients with a range of cardiovascular problems such as chest pain, angina, palpitations, breathlessness, blackouts and collapse. I have particular expertise in complex pacemaker implantation.
I practise at Spire Manchester Hospital, BMI The Alexandra, in Manchester / Cheshire, and BMI The Highfield in Lancashire. Appointments can be made by us calling directly, and we can often arrange to see you at short notice.
Patient care is a priority for me, and I work closely with specialist nurses, physicians and GPs to ensure my patients receive high quality care throughout their journey.
I’m currently the Heart Failure & Device Lead for the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, where I’m also the Senior Complex Operator.
We provide a personal, friendly service. My patients are given full contact details, including my mobile number, and I’ll always respond quickly to any questions or concerns.
Areas of interest
General cardiology; heart failure; chest pain; palpitations; blackouts/dizziness; breathlessness; collapse; biventricular pacemakers; implantable cardiac defibrillators; cardiac re-synchronisation therapy (CRT); arrhythmias; atrial fibrillation; Syncope; pacemaker implantation
Current NHS consultant posts held
Consultant Cardiologist and Heart Failure & Device Lead at The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust
I completed a British Heart Foundation funded PhD investigating the influence of insulin-resistance on vascular regeneration alongside work looking at heart failure outcomes. I completed my PhD in 2012.
I’m currently working with Manchester University to investigate TRIAGE HF, a new clinical pathway for monitoring patients using data from cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs).
I have also taken a lead role in the 'Primary Care Heart Failure Service'. This award winning project aims to identify and optimise high risk heart failure patients in the community. In addition, I am part of a European steering group committee exploring the potential clinical use and the value of single chamber ICDs with AF detection capability.
I’m married with two children, who certainly keep me on my toes! I love to travel and enjoy most sports.

I regularly deliver educational sessions and seminars in primary care. I have a special interest in heart failure and complex device therapy, and it’s always a pleasure to present on these topics. Please get in touch if you’d like to arrange a session.
