Mr Matthew Welck is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon who exclusively specialises in foot and ankle surgery.
His specialist interests include ankle arthritis and replacement and foot deformity..
He is double fellowship trained. He also undertook a combined clinical and research fellowship at the internationally renowned Foot and Ankle Institute, Baltimore, USA under Dr Mark Myerson.
He is a consultant at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, a national centre of excellence dealing with complex cases that have been referred from centres all over the United Kingdom. He works closely with radiologists, physiotherapists, podiatrists, chiropodists, specialist nurses, orthotics and anaesthetists to provide optimum care to patients.

Mr Welck has a keen interest in research. He achieved a distinction in both an undergraduate BSc and a postgraduate MSc. He has numerous peer reviewed publications and international and national podium presentations of his work.
His research interests include the use of novel weight bearing CT scanning to help treat conditions of the foot and ankle. He has setup one of the largest databases in the UK. He is currently involved in setting up the Bone Marrow Derived Stem Cell trial for the treatment of ankle cartilage defects, and has an active interest in outcomes research in foot and ankle surgery.

Mr Welck has been awarded numerous awards and prizes, including the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Association Travelling fellowship award and Podium Presentation Prize and The David Marsh MSc Trauma and Orthopaedics Research Prize.
