Professional profile

Dr. Mysore Phanish graduated with MBBS in India in 1993, came to the UK in 1997 after completing post-graduation in Internal Medicine. He trained in renal medicine at Walsgrave Hospital Coventry, University Hospital of Wales Cardiff, District General Hospital Bangor, Guys Hospital London and St Helier Hospital Carshalton. He was appointed as consultant nephrologist at St Helier Hospital in 2007 and obtained Ph D in renal cell biology at the SW Thames Institute for Renal Research, St George’s University of London in 2008.
He is a clinical lead for living donor kidney transplantation working closely with transplant teams at St Helier and St George’s hospitals. He provides renal services for patients at St Helier Hospital and Croydon University Hospital including Croydon dialysis unit. He is a lead consultant for diabetes-renal services at Croydon. His main expertise is in renal transplant medicine and diabetic kidney disease. Other clinical interests and expertise include management of a wide range of renal disorders including glomerulonephritis, acute kidney injury, nephrotic syndrome, hypertension and hypertensive kidney disease, chronic kidney disease, diabetic kidney disease, inherited renal disorders, medical management of renal stone disease and urinary tract infections. Dr Phanish is active in renal SpR teaching, has delivered Webinar on kidney transplantation. Research interests include cell biology of renal fibrosis, understanding mechanisms of kidney scarring to develop new therapies, kidney transplantation, diabetic kidney disease and biomarkers. He has 26 original publications in peer reviewed journals, given several oral and poster presentations at national (UK renal association and British Transplant Society) and International (American Society of Nephrology) meetings, written book chapters. He has successfully conducted clinical trials as principal investigator. He regularly gives lectures to GPs in Croydon and Merton areas on diabetic kidney disease. He has contributed to British Transplant Society national guidelines on living donor kidney transplantation. He supervises Ph D students at SW Thames Institute for Renal research, St Helier Hospital.
