I am a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon within Barts and The London NHS Trust and have a personal chair in surgical oncology at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry.
Working closely with Professor Andrew Silver (head of the colorectal cancer genetics group at ICMS), my research focuses on improving the prognostic stratification of colorectal cancer patients following surgery and the immunology of differing colorectal cancer phenotypes. I am a well established postgraduate trainer in pelvic surgery and am jointly responsible for delineating the new undergraduate surgical curriculum for 2008.

Colorectal, laparosopic and hernia surgery, hemorrhoids, inflammatory bowel disease.

I have a PhD from my research fellowship with Cancer Research UK on aspects of the molecular biology of colorectal cancer. I jointly run a research program and lead a group comprising both clinical research fellows and scientists. My main areas of research focus on the prediction of tumour biology employing DNA microarrays and the investigation and augmentation of the host immune response in colorectal cancer patients.
