Ben qualified from the University of Sheffield in 1999 and spent his early career as an Army Dental Officer. Ben achieved his initial membership of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2005 (MFGDP(UK). He was then selected to spend a year as a Senior House Officer post in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Queen Alexandra Hospital and whilst in this post he was successful in his MFDS exam. He was subsequently selected as the first person to enter 3 years of training as a Specialist Registrar in Oral Surgery in Portsmouth and has more than 13 years experience working in NHS Hospital Oral Surgery. In 2013, Ben left the Army and joined us at the Wessex Dental Specialist Centre.
Ben completed his specialist training in 2008 and gained the Speciality Diploma of Membership in Surgical Dentistry (MSurgDent) of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. In the same year he was awarded a Master of Science Degree with Distinction in Healthcare Management. In 2015 Ben was awarded the Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and more recently in 2018 he was awarded a Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Education to support his role as a trainer of future Specialists in Oral Surgery.
Since completing his Specialist Training, Ben has enjoyed continuing to strive for excellence in all aspects of his clinical care and has a strong interest and extensive experience in dental implant surgery and minimally traumatic wisdom tooth surgery. . Ben's continuing professional development remains very active with him attending courses and conferences regularly both in the UK and internationally. Recent highlights for him were his experiences of teaching in advanced implant dentistry from world renowned experts at the University of Bern in Switzerland and Harvard University in the USA.
Ben has extensive experience in successfully helping people who are anxious of dental treatment and is an experienced dental sedationist. He shares his skills as an Oral Surgeon through extensive involvement in the teaching of Oral Surgery to other dentists and is a member of the Association of Dental Implantology, the British Dental Association and the British Association of Oral Surgeons.
Ben is kept happily busy outside of work with his young family and in his spare time, he has substituted his past love of skydiving for the more family compatible hobbies of cycling, running and tennis.
