Alafiya received her Bachelor’s in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Truman State University in 2009 and Masters in Speech and Language Pathology from University of Texas at Dallas 2011. She is a certified member of the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA), Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and a member in good standing of the Health and Professionals Council UK (HCPC). She has been a practicing SLT since 2011 and has worked in America, India, and the United Kingdom. She currently works for the NHS as a full-time therapist.
Alafiya specialises in dysphagia (swallowing disorders), acquired communication disorders (such as communication problems after a stroke or traumatic brain injury), neurological rehabilitation (such as rehabilitation for neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s Disease, Dementia, Motor Neuron Disease, etc.), and case-by-case basis for paediatric communication and swallowing problems. She also has expertise in training other healthcare professionals, nurses, and healthcare assistants. She is fluent in multiple languages including Gujarati, Urdu, and Hindi.
