Dr Ayyaz Sultan is an experienced consultant cardiologist based in Greater Manchester and Liverpool. He treats all aspects of adult heart disease, including high blood pressure, angina, palpitations, heart failure and heart murmurs. He also specialises in interventional cardiology, and is currently the Cardiac Catheter Lab/PCI Lead at the Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust.
Dr Sultan completed his cardiology training in Sheffield in 2013, after which he did an interventional cardiology fellowship at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. He has been a consultant in the UK since 2015 and in 2016 he was appointed as an honorary senior lecturer for the University of Manchester. In this role, Dr Sultan is responsible for training junior doctors, undergraduates and cardiology registrars, and he also acts as clinical supervisor for training nurses.
His key interests within interventional cardiology include the treatment of coronary artery disease, non-invasive cardiac CT, angioplasty and stenting. In fact, Dr Sultan has performed more than 4,000 angiographies and over 1,400 angioplasty procedures.
