About me

Mr Henry Maxwell has been a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon for 20 years. He graduated from the Victoria University of Manchester in 1983 and was appointed as Consultant Orthopaedic Lower limb surgeon at Hope Hospital Salford, a teaching hospital, in 1995. During his training he undertook a two-year research fellowship at the Centre for Hip Surgery at Wrightington Hospital, UK. In 1995 he was awarded the higher degree of Master of Surgery (ChM) and the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Orthopaedic Surgery.

Approximately 30% of his practice is foot and ankle surgery, 50% knee surgery and 20% Hip surgery. In April 2013 Mr Maxwell elected to provide NHS services solely in the independent sector basing his surgical practice at the Ramsay Oaklands Hospital in Salford.


Surgical Volumes

Since leaving the formal NHS has maintained a busy outpatient and Orthopaedic lower limb practice. In 2015 and 2016 Mr Maxwell performed in the order of 900 operations and in the same years held in excess of 3000 out patient consultations.



Foot and Ankle
Mr Maxwell has extensive expertise in soft tissue injuries, sports injuries, deformities of the foot and ankle as well as painful foot and toenail conditions. He performs keyhole surgery of the ankle and great toe. He performs corrective surgery for midfoot and hindfoot. He also has considerable expertise in complex foot disorders and revision foot surgery; approximately 30% of his foot and ankle referrals.


Knee

Mr Maxwell has in depth expertise in elective knee surgery, He offers arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery, total knee joint replacement surgery and surgery for recurrent patella dislocation. He is one of a relatively small group of surgeons trained in current methods for the treatment of joint surface injury including chondrocyte transplantation (relining of the knee joint surface).



Hip and Pelvis

Mr Maxwell has extensive experience in hip replacement surgery. In addition Mr Maxwell is one of a small number of surgeons in the UK who performs arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery of the hip joint, beneficial in the diagnosis and treatment of painful hip disorders and injuries in young adults.

Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement Surgery.

Mr Maxwell has 20 years of experience as a Consultant performing total hip and total knee replacements. He utilises a hip replacement first used in the 1970's and knee replacement first used in 1984, for which both have excellent long term results and are ODEP 10 year A* rated. His published National Joint register data for primary joint replacement surgery is in line with national norms and can be viewed under 'my outcomes'.
