Hi my name is Caroline, I am an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist (CBT) and am also trained in Integrative Counselling/Psychotherapy. In addition I am also a qualified Mindfulness Teacher, Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and have completed the Mindfulness training for teenagers (.b), Nurturing parents- mindfulness based programme. I offer short or long term therapy to older adolescents 16 + and adults, I:I or group mindfulness training and an Integrative approach with all these domains.I am a very experienced therapist, having had 20 years of experience in psychological therapies and over 30 years in the general field of mental health.
How I work:
I love my work and am dedicated and committed to what I do. I provide a safe and confidential space, and have a warm insightful and understanding approach. I aim to help you to feel comfortable in the therapeutic environment. I believe in building a trusting relationship, which is crucial and will allow you to start exploring difficult and perhaps unwanted or difficult thoughts, feelings and behaviours in your life, that you'd like to change or view differently.
I aim to create an environment where you feel accepted in a non-judgmental manner and supported throughout our time together, whilst also showing empathy with whatever you share. Depending on what approach we decided to use, we'll either be exploring and processing feelings and /or making active changes as in CBT which would be lead by your therapy goals.
I can work in an Integrative way, which means that I draw on a range of therapeutic techniques in my work depending on what seems most suitable for you and your needs.
What is CBT?
CBT is a structured, time limited therapy, mainly focusing on anxiety and/or depression issues. We start with an assessment of your presenting problems, which would include goals to work towards in therapy. CBT is a collaborative therapy where we work together on your issues, where there would be handouts given and worksheets for home practice. It is referred to as an active change therapy. The idea is that you feel ready to make changes to your thoughts/beliefs and behaviours to change the way you feel.
What is Counselling/Psychotherapy?
Counselling/Psychotherapy can be short or long term, integrating different approaches, looking back over childhood issues, understanding the past and making links with the present, gaining insight into unconscious relationship patterns that evolved since childhood. Memories and other evidence of early relationships are used to make sense of current concerns(psychodynamic).Processing difficult emotions and how to move on in the present.
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness can show you how, through simple meditation practices, you can learn to let go of worrying about what has happened, or might happen, and find peace in the present moment. The practices are formal and informal forms of meditation, with a particular focus of attention, noticing mind wandering, letting go of judgments and gently bringing the mind back to focus again. Mindfulness is not a psychotherapy but can be included in therapy. Mindfulness does not solve problems but can help us to view our problems differently.
