About me

Dr Campbell is a qualified Consultant Clinical Psychologist, chartered by the British Psychological Society, Registered with the Health Professions Council, and is an Associate Fellow of The British Psychological Society with extensive experience in Adult Mental Health. He is currently employed by the NHS as the Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Lead of the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Services (IAPT) across the North West Boroughs Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. These IAPT services currently employ approximately 150 clinical staff for whom Dr Campbell has clinical governance responsibility.

He is currently the Clinical Lead for Adult Primary Care Mental Health Services for the Greater Manchester and Eastern Cheshire Strategic Clinical Network under the auspices of NHS England where he advises and provides leadership on the expansion of the IAPT programme across Greater Manchester and Eastern Cheshire.

He has also worked as a Clinical Lead in Mental Health Liaison for the Cheshire & Merseyside Strategic Clinical Network under the auspices of NHS England. In this role he was responsible for clinical leadership on the psychological aspects of medical procedures and physical health care. This role involved producing best practice guidance for psychological abreactions to medical procedures as well as medically unexplained symptoms.

Dr Campbell is currently leading a large scale transformation programme for psychological therapies within the North West Boroughs Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The aim of this programme is to improve care pathways within primary care mental health services and to introduce a stepped care pathway within secondary care psychological therapies services across the North West Boroughs patch which includes Warrington, Halton, Knowsley, Wigan and St Helens CCG areas.

Dr Campbell provides therapy to service users and supervision to professionals in both the NHS and the private sector and utilises various types of therapy including CBT, EMDR, psychodynamic therapies and interpersonal therapies. He also has extensive experience in providing psychological assessments and preparing medico-legal reports for civil proceedings. He has also worked as a reviewer for the Cochrane Collaboration and was a lecturer in research methods and statistics before training as a clinical psychologist.
