Consultant Cardiac and Transplant Surgeon:
Mr Mahesh is a Consultant Cardiac and Transplant Surgeon at Harefield Hospital. He was previously a consultant at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Glasgow in cardiac surgery and transplantation.
Training and experience:
Mr Mahesh obtained his medical degree and initial surgical training from India’s premier medical institution (All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi). Following this, he trained as a cardiac surgeon at the internationally acclaimed Harefield and Papworth hospitals in the UK. During this period, he also attained a PhD at Imperial College London, for his research into the role of autoantibodies in mediating acute and chronic rejection in heart transplant recipients. He then attained further specialisation in heart and lung transplantation, and implantation of ventricular assist devices, at the world-famous University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, in the USA.
Mr Mahesh’s experience at these world-renowned centres has enabled him broaden his expertise and amalgamate best practices. He now specialises in all major heart surgery, heart and lung transplantation, and implantation of ventricular assist devices. He performs key procedures such as: total arterial coronary revascularization, minimally invasive aortic valve surgery by only partially splitting the breast bone, aortic root surgery and mitral valve [repair] surgery.
Mr Mahesh has special interests in the following;

• Coronary revascularisation with special emphasis on total arterial grafting
• Mitral and tricuspid valve surgery including repairs
• Aortic root replacement
• Minimally invasive aortic valve replacement
• Arrhythmia Surgery
His research interests include the role of antibody mediated rejection in affecting outcomes following heart transplantation, and right ventricular function following heart transplantation, as well as implantation of left ventricular assist devices. He has published widely and these are available on pubmed. He also has a major interest in education and training, and is a Clinical Tutor with the Royal College of Surgeons.
