About me

I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a particular interest in traumatic and degenerative conditions of the ankle and foot. This includes arthroscopic and open surgery, together with Ilizarov techniques to correct deformity.

I come from Liverpool and studied at the University of Liverpool, qualifying in 1981. I undertook seven years of his surgical training in London and completed this in Liverpool prior to taking up my NHS post as a consultant at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital in 1994. I specialise in surgery of the ankle and foot and traumatic conditions of the lower limb.

I am Director of the Liverpool Foot Centre and have over twenty years experience as a consultant foot and ankle surgeon. I treat a range of conditions from broken ankles of sports players to removing bunions and re-aligning toes.

I have achieved wide recognition in the world of foot and ankle surgery and regularly lecture at national and international meetings. I am Course Director of the Liverpool Forefoot Course, Co-Chairman of the Nice Foot and Ankle Symposium, Nice, France. I was President of the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society from 2007-8 representing the Society on national and international issues. Prior to this I was Chairman of its Scientific Committee. I was Director of the Society from 2009 to 2011. More recently, I have taken on training of orthopaedic surgeons both nationally and internationally.

I have provided opinion for radio and newspaper articles and provided commentary on the effects of high heels on the foot in Channel Four’s "Embarrassing Bodies".
