About me

I joined the Nutrition and Intestinal Failure team as a Consultant Gastroenterology at University College London Hospital (UCLH) in December 2013. I run target clinics specific for patients with symptoms suspicious of cancer and patients with Gastrointestinal symptoms of cancer and its treatment (i.e. Radiation Enteropathy). I see patients with general gastroenterology problems. I have an expertise in Nutrition, Intestinal Failure (i.e. Short Bowel Syndrome), Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Coeliac disease. I have an interest in Endoscopy both diagnostic and therapeutic.
I trained as an MD at the Catholic University of Rome, Italy where I completed my Gastroenterology training. As a SpR I was the coordinator of the European multicentre study for Double Balloon Enteroscopy. I then was a post-doctoral fellow for 2 years at UPMC, Pittsburgh, USA where I was awarded the HFSP fellowship and worked on identification of new target genes for diagnosis/treatment of colorectal and gastric cancer using DNA Microarray Analysis. I completed my PhD in Nutrition at the University of Tor Vergata, Rome, Italy. I was previously the Senior Clinical Fellow in Inflammatory Bowel Disease at UCLH where I was awarded the UCLH Fast Track Grant for my research. I have a particular interest in research and I am an Honorary Senior Lecturer at UCL. I teach undergraduate and postgraduate. I am actively involved in teaching and organising the MSC students in Clinical and Public Health Nutrition at UCL and the UCLp Nutrition course.
