I have been a consultant physician for more than 10 years, looking after people with a wide range of problems that affect the heart (cardiovascular), lungs (respiratory), digestive system (gastrointestinal), kidneys (renal), brain (neurological), blood (haematological) and hormones (endocrine). In addition, as a specialist in older persons, I frequently work with people who have unexplained and non-specific complaints such as memory loss, difficulty in walking, weight loss and falls. The vast majority of my patients have problems affecting a number of body systems, and my expertise lies in managing the medical complexities that arise as a result.
I understand that being unwell can impact on your physical function, mental state and psychological wellbeing. My approach to care is holistic and centred around your needs and goals. I will involve you, and your family if you so wish, in any decision-making. I work closely with other specialists and allied health professionals, and will ensure good communication with you and your GP.
I treat both stable chronic conditions and acute deteriorations. I am skilled at coordinating investigations so that diagnoses can be made rapidly. I can help you optimize your conditions in preparation for surgery, and manage any medical complications that may occur after the operation. I also advise on advance plans such as living wills and Power of Attorney.
Areas of interest
I specialise in the management of multiple medical conditions and psychosocial impact of disease. The conditions I see are not restricted to a single organ, and I commonly see patients with combinations of heart failure, hypertension, atrial fibrillation, emphysema, chronic kidney disease, anaemia, diabetes, stroke, dementia and Parkinson’s disease.
