About me

Dr Kanaganayagam is a Cardiology Consultant at Imperial NHS trust and Chelsea and Westminster NHS trust, and a senior lecturer in Cardiology at Imperial.

He worked to lay the foundations of a novel cardiology service within a community environment to give patients better access to specialist care. He sees a range of patients with chest pain, breathlessness, ankle swelling, valve disease and palpitations.

Dr Kanaganayagam also sees patients for risk assessment when required with tailored non invasive tests and invasive tests.

He is the clinical lead for heart failure in this seminal service and has developed a thorough, considered and compassionate approach to this complex group of patients.

Dr Kanaganayagam has formal accreditation in a number of cardiac imaging techniques, including calcium score, CT coronary angiography, cardiac MRI, echo and transoesophageal echo, Dr Kanaganayagam is able to provide a unique and expedient hands-on approach in the investigative process. He uses this skill to advise specialist teams at Imperial and Chelsea and Westminster to help manage people with valve disease, and guide transcatheter procedures.

He was trained at Kings College London and intercalated a PhD in Cardiology at St Thomas’ Hospital whilst a medical student, with prizes, distinctions and scholarships. He continued training as an academic and clinician at tertiary and quaternary cardiology centres, Imperial College London and the Royal Brompton Hospital. He is now an honorary clinical lecturer, and has set up educational sessions, given talks on courses, designed simulation models, has been invited as faculty to speak at a number of international courses, and continues to contribute in the research arena. He is the principle investigator for a number of clinical trials.
