About me
I studied at University College London where I was awarded a BSc in Biochemistry (1978) and MB BS (1981). I was awarded Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 1986 and I was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) in 2000.
I trained in Diabetes and Endocrinology and General (Internal) Medicine in London and was awarded a Doctorate in Medicine (MD) by the University of London in 1991 following 3 years of research on the regulation of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). I received Specialist Accreditation in 1992.
I have been a Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist at St Helier Hospital, Carshalton since 1996. As Lead Clinician for Diabetes and Endocrinology, I lead a multi-disciplinary specialist team which delivers high quality specialist diabetes and endocrine services.
I have a long-standing commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training and I am an Honorary Senior Lecturer in Endocrinology at St George's University of London. I have been a Sub-Dean at St George's University of London and Chair of the Diabetes and Endocrinology Specialty Training Committee. I was Royal College of Physicians Regional Specialty Adviser for Diabetes and Endocrinology and I have been the Royal College of Physicians Regional Adviser with responsibility for service quality and continuing professional development.
I am a member of the Society for Endocrinology, a professional member of Diabetes UK and Coeliac UK, and a member of the British Medical Association and Sutton and District Medical Society.
Areas of interest
Thyroid gland disorders including hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism and thyroid nodules; parathyroid gland disorders - hypercalcaemia and other disorders of calcium metabolism; pituitary tumours and disorders of pituitary function; polycystic ovary syndrome, hirsutism, ovarian failure and other female endocrine problems; testosterone deficiency; disorders of adrenal glands; type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus; hypoglycaemia; hypertension; lipid disorders.
