Mr Miah grew up in Newcastle upon Tyne and qualified in Medicine from the University of Dundee Medical School in 2003.
He completed Basic Surgical Training in the Northwest region (Liverpool & Blackpool) and gained experience in Cardiothoracic surgery, Organ Transplantation, General/Colorectal/Vascular surgery, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery and Ear, Nose & Throat surgery (ENT).
He gained a vast experience and expertise in Adult & Paediatric ENT surgery through his Specialist Surgical Training in Scotland (Dundee, Kirkcaldy & Aberdeen) and Yorkshire (Leeds, Bradford, Halifax/Huddersfield). Between 2008 and 2012, Mr Miah gained Specialist ENT experience through an excellent training from the Academic ENT-Head & Neck surgery Department in Ninewells Hospital (Dundee), Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy & Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. This included a good grounding on all aspects of ENT-Head & Neck surgery including Skull Base and Facial Plastic surgery. Whilst in Dundee, he had the opportunity to work with the Oral & Maxillofacial surgeons which furthered his experience in Facial Plastic surgery and Head & Neck Oncology. Halfway through Specialist Training, Mr Miah moved to Yorkshire on an inter-deanery transfer and developed sub-specialty interest in Otology/Hearing Implantations and Paediatric ENT through his experience in Leeds General Infirmary and Yorkshire Auditory Implant Centre (Bradford Royal Infirmary).
Immediately after completion of specialist training in 2015, he was appointed as a Consultant ENT Surgeon at the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust where he is part of the Bone-Anchored Hearing Implant team.
He very much enjoys teaching and training. He has been involved with teaching since he was a medical student through the Peer Tutoring programme at the University of Dundee Medical School. As a qualified doctor, he continued with his teaching ventures and over the years has taught medical/dental/nursing students, doctors and other healthcare professionals.
Previously (2008-2012), he was an Honorary Clinical Teacher at the division of Clinical Sciences and Education (University of Dundee). He was also an OSCE examiner for medical students at the University of Dundee Medical School. Subsequently in Yorkshire, he has taught medical students through the Leeds University Medical School ENT programme until he was appointed as Consultant Surgeon in 2015.
As a consultant, he continues to teach undergraduate students and doctors of all levels including specialist ENT surgical trainees.
Besides his clinical roles and activities, Mr Miah is actively involved in research into ENT conditions, especially ear disorders in adults and children. He has published widely in peer-reviewed national and international journals and also has written 2 book chapters. In his spare time, Mr Miah enjoys cooking, regular fishing trips and spending time with his two wonderful children.
