About me

Dr Doug Macdonald graduated in 2001 with Honours and Distinctions in Medical Sciences and Clinical Medicine from the University of Southampton. He trained as a junior doctor on the Hammersmith rotation and King’s College Hospital Liver Transplant Unit before working as a research fellow in infectious diseases in Lima, Peru. He returned to London for specialist training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology based at the Imperial College NHS Trust hospitals. He was awarded an MRC Clinical Research Fellowship in 2009 and completed a PhD in Virology and Immunology at University College London followed by a fellowship at Yale University in 2012. He has been a Consultant Hepatologist at the Royal Free Hospital since 2014 and leads the North Central London Hepatitis C treatment network.

liver disease, liver fibrosis and cirrhosis, viral hepatitis; liver cancer; viral hepatitis; abnormal liver function tests; infectious diseases of the liver and gastrointestinal tract; upper GI endoscopy; colonoscopy; gastrointestinal disorders; dyspepsia and reflux; functional bowel disorders.
