- Short Term Psychodynamic Therapy
Before qualifying as a psychoanalyst I worked in psychiatric day hospitals, long stay care and in a community mental health team as a senior occupational therapist. I currently work in private practice. I regret there isn't wider availability through the NHS for people to take 'time out' in order to better understand why they are struggling with confusion, unhappiness, or a specific problem/crisis and how they can challenge and change it.
Areas of interest
Individual Therapy; Couples Therapy; Anxiety disorders; depression; eating disorders; relationship problems; work related stress; bereavement; separation anxiety; midlife issues; trauma;
I have always combined working in mental health with writing about it. I have published in journals, magazines and as a columnist on many aspects of mental health and therapy,
Many years of freelance writing: features, articles and as a columnist. 'Agony Aunt' page for both Marie Claire and Sainsburys.
'what will you do with my story?' Elizabeth Meakins (2012 published Karnac)
I wanted to write about what, in my view, really matters in the therapeutic process, and how theory can actually get in the way.
