About me

I am an experienced and established Consultant based within Northamptonshire and was appointed in 1990. I have a comprehensive general gynaecological practice with a special interest in minimal access laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery, colposcopy and paediatric and adolescent gynaecology.

I was appointed Honorary Senior Lecturer in Medical Education at Leicester University (where I obtained my Doctorate) and have private practising privileges at the Three Shires Hospital Northampton and also the Woodland Hospital in Kettering. I have an Honorary NHS Consultant contract at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge.

I have held held senior roles within my previous Trust including that of Associate Medical Director.

Advisory Committee on Clinical Excellence Awards - National Bronze Award – 2004 - renewed 2009 and 2014.

My medicolegal experience along with my contribution to paediatric and adolescent gynaecology was recognised by an invitation to become a Founding Member of the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine in 2008 since when I have been appointed a Fellow. I am also a Founding Member of the Expert Witness Institute and provide expert advice for the General Medical Council and the Nursing and Midwifery Council . I am an Assessor in obstetrics and gynaecology for the National Clinical Advisory Service and the Care Quality Commission.

At a national level I have held several positions of responsibility within the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists including Chair of the Oral Assessment Subcommittee for the Part 2 MRCOG examination and chaired the Task and Finish Group to introduce a new Part 3 examination. I remain a Review and Performance Assessor for the College.

I have authored one book, contributed to several chapters in books and have published some 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals.

I have been Chair of the East Midlands Region Safer Care Programme Board (Patient Safety Lead) and Chair of the South and East Midlands Healthier Together Maternity Clinical Working Group. As a result I have encouraged closer cooperation between providers and and improved communications between the County and Regional Groups.

I am immediate Past-President of the the Birmingham and Midland Obstetric and Gynaecology Society, current President of the European Association of Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology and Secretary-General of the International Federation of Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology
