About me

I am a vastly experienced and highly trained consultant ophthalmologist and an Honorary clinical Associate Professor at Nottingham University Hospital’s NHS Trust.

With a special interest in cornea and ocular surface, cataract, lens and refractive surgery and emergency eye care. I am Eye Casualty lead at Nottingham University Hospital’s NHS Trust since 2015.

After finishing my MBChB in 1994, a Master’s degree in 1998 and MD degree 2005,I have continued to persue my career internationally in both Egypt and in the UK. I am a Professor in the Research Institute of Ophthalmology in Cairo, Egypt since 2014.

Whilst working in Egypt I have gained extensive experience in managing complex corneal infections, performing refractive surgery and was at the forefront of collagen cross-linking for infections and keratoconus.

During my training, I completed two corneal and ocular surface fellowships and an oculoplastic fellowship at Nottingham University Hospital’s NHS Trust before being appointed as a substantive consultant in 2014. I have been appointed as an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor with the University of Nottingham in 2017.

I have performed thousands of cataract operations with excellent outcomes including complex cataract surgery as well as Refractive lens exchange with premium IOLs and phakic implants.

I am experienced in cornea and ocular surface surgery such as DALK, DSAEK, collagen crosslinking for keratoconus, pterygium surgery, ocular surface stem cell surgery and refractive surgery.
