About me

Mr Tom Flynn is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital specialising in cataract surgery, corneal transplantation, keratoconus and refractive surgery (laser eye surgery).

Mr Flynn qualified from University College Cork in 1999. He worked in the department of ophthalmology at Cork University Hospital before moving to London where he completed higher specialist training in ophthalmology at Moorfields Eye Hospital, the Royal Free Hospital and the Western Eye Hospital. He underwent a further two years of subspecialist fellowship training in corneal and cataract surgery Moorfields Eye Hospital.

He has been a consultant ophthalmic surgeon since 2013 and has both a private and an NHS practice at Moorfields Eye Hospital. He currently provides high quality surgical and medical ophthalmic care across three of Moorfields’ sites in London.

Mr Flynn has a strong track record in vision science and was awarded a PhD by University College London in 2011 for his research on corneal transplant immunology and ocular allergy. He is also engaged in research to improve interpretation of results from complex corneal imaging equipment. He has published many academic papers in the field of corneal surgery and acts as a reviewer for sixteen medical journals. He lectures at national and international meetings and symposia and has trained many fellows in corneal surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital.

Mr Flynn is registered as a specialist with the GMC and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth). He is a member of the European and UK and Ireland Societies of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ESCRS, UKISCRS).
