About me

On leaving school I trained as a (then) state registered nurse at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London. After becoming a ward sister I retrained as a clinical scientist, undertaking a degree in Physiology at University College, London and a masters degree in Biopharmacy at King’s College London. I then spent the next twenty years working in clinical research, both in the pharmaceutical industry and in academia. Ten years ago I read for another master’s degree at Southampton University in Health Psychology. This was a course that seemed to draw together all of my past experience and which sparked an interest in psychotherapy. The NHS (primary care and secondary care), prisons and latterly the student counselling service at The University of Chichester have all been locations for my clinical work. In all of these different settings I have worked with people who need help overcoming all types of anxiety disorders and depression and also with people with severe and enduring mental health problems. My main treatment modality is ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy) which comes under the umbrella of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). I have additional training in EMDR to enhance my work with with people who have experienced trauma.
