I qualified from Trinity Hall, Cambridge and the Middlesex Hospital in 1982. I trained in Neurology at The National Hospital , Queen Square and L'Hopital Kremlin Bicetre, Paris. I have been a Consultant Neurologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the National Hospital for Neurology since 1997. I am now one of the senior neurologists at the National Hospital for Neurology, Queen Square, London. I am Chief Author and editor of the Oxford Handbook of Neurology which is used by neurology trainees and Consultants worldwide as a practical textbook for diagnosing and managing neurology patients.The third edition is now in preparation. My most recent book publication last year was "Cases of Neuromuscular Disorders from Queen Square - editors Hadi Manji, Matt Evans and Chris Turner" I have also published widely on general neurology, peripheral nerve and neurological infectious disorders. I visit and teach overseas regularly in particular Kenya and Mozambique.

I have published widely on various aspects of neurology including peripheral nerve disorders, HIV neurology, infectious diseases, movement disorders.
I have also now published and lectured on the the subject of Neurological complication of Covid-19. This experience is based on the weekly Queen Square Brain infection and Inflammation multidisciplinary meeting I set up with my colleague Dr Mike Zandi. Together with Dr MacNamara, we have now also set up a Covid-19 Neurology clinic at the National Hospital funded by the National Brain Appeal (the National Hospital Fund Raising Charity)
I am chief editor and author of the Oxford Handbook of Neurology 2nd edition.
