About me
I qualified as a doctor in 2001 following a 5 year medical degree at Queen’s University of Belfast, During this time, after 3rd MB, I completed an honours intercalated degree in Experimental Pathology in the prestigious department of pathology at the University of Edinburgh in 1999. I then returned to Belfast to complete the final two years of my undergraduate medical degree, passing with a distinction in medicine and surgery, and I was also awarded the Wilson Orthopaedic Medal, which is a final year speciality prize that involves both written and clinical examinations.
After completing my pre-registration house officer year at the Royal Victoria Hospital in 2002, my postgraduate surgical training has centred in Northern Ireland beginning with a Basic Surgical Rotation within the Northern Ireland Deanery that included the majority of surgical disciplines including plastic surgery, followed by a period as an experienced senior house officer in trauma + orthopaedics, while completing research proposals and securing an 18 month high volume Hip + Knee Joint Replacement (Arthroplasty) Fellowship in 2007 with Professor Beverland at Musgrave Park Hospital.
During this high volume Hip + Knee Joint Replacement (Arthroplasty) Fellowship, I completed a large randomised controlled clinical trial comparing knee replacement implants, which was later awarded an MD by Queens University of Belfast.
In 2008, I obtained a registrar training post in Trauma + Orthopaedics within the Northern Ireland Deanery that led to a certificate of completion of training in August 2014.
The final year of the training programme involved an out of region foot + ankle fellowship at the Royal Surrey County Hospital and Frimley Park Hospital with Mr Sakellariou, Mr Solan, Mr Halliwell and Mr Wee which has been accredited by the Joint Committee on Surgical Training (JCST), the Specialty Advisory Committee (SAC) in Trauma + Orthopaedics and by the General Medical Council (GMC).
I have been an NHS Consultant Trauma + Orthopaedic Surgeon since 2014. I manage general orthopaedic conditions and trauma with particular focus on lower limb problems such as hip and knee arthritis, including knee cartilage tears.
I treat private patients at the North West Independent Hospital in Ballykelly
