Dr Arnab Datta qualified from Jesus College, Cambridge with a first class degree in Neurophysiology, before completing his medical training at University College, London (UCL), graduating with a Distinction and several University prizes. He trained at several of the country’s top teaching hospitals, including The Royal Brompton Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital, before being award a prestigious Wellcome Trust Fellowship (2008) and completing his PhD (pulmonary fibrosis) at UCL (2011).
Dr Datta was appointed as a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine at Northwick Park Hospital in 2012, and is an an Honorary Consultant at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (St Mary’s Hospital) in Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD). As well as being a highly skilled bronchoscopist, he developed and expanded the Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) service at Northwick Park Hospital which has further significantly reduced the waiting time to treatment of patients with lung cancer, tuberculosis and other significant lung diseases such as sarcoid.
He is additionally involved in managing the High Dependency Unit, directing the care of severely ill patients including those with respiratory failure, including COVID infections, and his expertise in lung fibrosis has proved critical in managing the sequelae of COVID pneumonia such as lung fibrosis.
Dr Datta’s clinical practice involves managing patients across the entire range of respiratory symptoms and conditions. He is consulted about cough, breathlessness and wheeze, as well as sputum production, coughing up blood (haemoptysis) and chest pain.
