About me

Mr Adnan Saithna is a multi-award winning Shoulder and Sports Injury Knee Surgeon. His most recent prizes include the 2017 Richard J O’Connor Award from the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the 2016 British Orthopaedic Sports Trauma and Arthroscopy Association Travelling Fellowship Award.

The international award was received for the world’s largest series of combined ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) and anterolateral ligament reconstruction. This study demonstrated significant improvements in graft rupture rates and return to sport after knee ligament surgery and was conducted in collaboration with the Santy Clinic, Lyon, France which is one of the few FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) designated centres of reference for medical excellence in Europe.

The BOSTAA travelling fellowship was awarded to Mr Saithna for pioneering work in arthroscopic shoulder surgery, which has now been presented at numerous international meetings and published widely. The fellowship allowed Mr Saithna to spend 3 weeks visiting several world-class sports injury centres and gain further experience of treating professional athletes.

In addition to his clinical work, Mr Saithna is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Liverpool where he is involved in research that is designed to improve outcomes for patients undergoing orthopaedic surgery. He has an extensive peer reviewed publication history and the importance of his work is reflected by the fact that in the last year alone he has been on the invited faculty for many meetings and his work has been selected for presentation at 15 national and international specialist society meetings.

Prior to becoming a Consultant, Mr Saithna’s highly specialist training included two years at internationally recognized sports injury centres (The Pan Am Clinic, Canada & The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, UK). This training means that he is able to provide high quality care using the latest surgical techniques for patients with knee and shoulder injuries.
