Miss Rao is a cataract and glaucoma specialist with 25 years of experience in ophthalmology. She has an expertise in cataract surgery both for routine and complex cataracts and provides a specialised service with micro-incision, no sutures and an option of no-injection anaesthesia. She specialises in diagnosis and management of glaucoma and offers advanced laser and surgical techniques for glaucoma. She also has a special interest in neuro-ophthalmology and has edited a neuro-ophthalmology manual for post graduates. She is the Clinical Supervisor for post graduate trainees at the Oxford Deanery
Miss Rao also offers general ophthalmology services including management of diabetic retinopathy, age related macular degeneration, cornea and external eye diseases and lid problems.

Miss Rao the first glaucoma consultant in the Channel Island of Guernsey. She works at the Medical Specialist Group, Guernsey. She is also involved in cataract, medical retina and general ophthalmic work.
Her research interest includes monitoring of intraocular pressure with a microchip embedded in a contact lens (Triggerfish). This monitoring is available for suitable patients.
She was involved in other Rotary projects like polio plus programme and organizing vocational training for economically weaker sections of society.
She enjoys old hindi songs and ghazals. She make batiks and curios with Tanjore Gold Art.
Prior to taking up her consultant appointment at the Medical Specialist Group, Miss Rao was the Clinical Lead and glaucoma consultant at the Prince Charles Eye Unit at Windsor. Prior to this, Miss Rao was the Medical Director of the Rotary Eye Hospital, Bangalore, India. For her service to the lower socioeconomic groups in India, she was awarded the ‘Service above Self’ award by The Rotary International.

Miss Rao regularly gives talks to optometrists and GP on referrals and updates in general ophthalmology and glaucoma.
She holds patient education programmes for my glaucoma patients to enhance their knowledge of the condition and improve adherence.
