Qualifications And Experience
Paul's clinical training was at Birkbeck College, University of London where he obtained an MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy. He is accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and is a full registrant of the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and adheres to their code of ethics.
He is also an accredited Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) practitioner, trained at the Anna Freud Centre and Tavistock and Portman Clinic where he has also undertaken a training in Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT) for application with those with Borderline Personality Disorder. He also has a training in supervision from the British Psychotherapy Foundation (BPF). More recently, Paul began a training in Group Analysis at the Institute of Group Analysis (IGA) graduating in 2018 with a Diploma in Group Work Practice as an Associate member of the IGA.
Paul first role in the NHS was as a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist for the West End Community Mental Health Team, working long term with complex patients in secondary care. He worked as a student counsellor at both London Metropolitan University and University College London in individual and group work.
Paul spent several years in NHS IAPT services as a Dynamic Interpersonal Therapist for South West London and St Georges' Mental Health Trust, the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and Compass Wellbeing CIC, an NHS Funded social enterprise offering mental health services to the population of Tower Hamlets, where he ran therapy groups and one-to-one sessions.
In 2017 he took a position at Birkbeck College, University of London as a Widening Participation Student Counsellor where he ran a project researching the barriers to counselling faced by men, refugees and care leavers.
Courses offered to GPs
In 2018 he returned to the NHS to take up a secondary care post, this time in East London NHS Foundation Trust, working as a group and individual psychotherapist in the borough of Newham.
Paul has maintained a private practice since 2013.
