I am a consultant urologist practicing at Spire Cardiff Hospital. I have undergone specialty training in the West of Scotland region before being appointment to my consultant post at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. My sub-specialty interests include the treatment of male and female urinary incontinence and I offer the full spectrum of incontinence procedures.
Given the recent controversy surrounding mesh-tape procedures, I feel it is important that patients can have a choice in selecting the interventions after being fully informed of pros- and cons- of each operation. Trying to understand the reason for the urinary symptoms can be daunting for both patients and doctors and, therefore, I try to present medical information in a form that patients can easily understand with using complex medical terminology or medical jargon.
I treat many male patients with urethral stricture disease, Peyronie's disease (penile curvature), ejaculatory problems and erectile dysfunction. It is a sensitive subject and take courage for the patients to come forward and talk. I try to put patients at ease and many men find it encouraging knowing that there are solutions to treat their condition.
Finally, I am dealing with other common conditions, such as urinary tract infection, blood in the urine and pain in the area of bladder and urethra. I work in close collaboration with my colleagues from other specialties as I feel it is paramount that patient's problems are approached holistically.
