I graduated in 1990 and trained as a general surgeon before specialising in cardiothoracic surgery and gaining my specialty exam in 2003. I spent 2 years in research looking at biomarkers of lung cancer and ischaemic lung injury and gained a Masters degree (Msc.) in Clinical Oncology. In 2006 I travelled to the USA to spend time at Seattle Medical Centre learning advanced thoracic surgery including VATS Lobectomy, Tracheal Surgery and Lung Volume Reduction Surgery (LVRS). I started my consultant post at Southampton hospital in September 2012 where I perform the full range of thoracic procedures in addition to developing research into lung cancer, benign lung disease & Micro CT with researchers from Southampton University.
