Roy Twyman has been treating patients with knee pain since becoming a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in 1994. His interest and expertise has grown since then and for the past 10 years this has been his exclusive area of interest.
His experience varies from young patients with cartilage and ligament injuries to older patients who require knee replacements. Many of his patients are keen Sportsmen committed to maintaining their fitness level as long as possible. Many come for second opinions or travel from around the country or abroad. Whether it is surgery or other associated specialists that is required he can confidently advise on the correct course of treatment.
He has an excellent reputation based on patient experience and independently audited results within the Elective Orthopaedic Centre and as a result is a popular trainer as part of the faculty at various conferences across the country.

All Mr. Twyman's knee replacements have been recorded on the National Joint Registry since its inception in 2003, amounting to almost 2,500 in total. This shows his 5 year revision rate (when the original implant has to be removed and replaced) is 1.42% compared with a National average of 2.65%. Only one joint has been revised for infection.
Date collected independently by the South West Thames Elective Orthopaedic Centre Research Department shows that over a 14 year time span, the median 6 month and 2 year Oxford Knee Scores of the knee replacements he has performed is 42 (max possible 48) against a National average at 6 months of 35. Over the same period the median 2 year satisfaction of his knee replacements is 95% over this time. The National average is 80%.
On average he carries out 250 knee replacements, 60 anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions and 250 knee arthroscopies a year.
