Prof Lee is a Professor of Medical Oncology at University College London (UCL), and a Consultant Medical Oncologist at UCL Hospitals (UCLH). He graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School in London before completing his postgraduate medicine training in the London teaching hospitals at St Mary's, St Bartholomew’s and King’s College Hospitals, followed by CRC oncology fellowship training at Guy’s and Christie Hospitals. He was awarded the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Upjohn Award in 1993, McElwain Prize by the Association of Cancer Physicians in 1994, and a PhD degree from University of Manchester in 1994. He was appointed Consultant Medical Oncologist at UCLH in 1998, Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians in 2003 and Professor of Medical Oncology at UCL in 2010. He specialises in the treatment of lung cancer, lymphoma and HIV-related cancers.
Prof Lee is recognised internationally for his lung cancer trials. He is chief, co-chief or senior Investigator for several National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) cancer studies, and his trials have led to changes in treatment paradigms for cancer patients. His work has been recognised at major international conferences with invited presidential, plenary and oral lectures at World Lung Cancer Conference, ASCO and ESMO. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers, abstracts and book chapters, many as first or senior author in high impact medical journals.
Professor Lee currently chairs the London Lung Cancer Group, which has a longstanding international research reputation, Clinical Lead of the Thoracic Medical Oncology Unit at UCLH and Co-Clinical Lead of CRUK Lung Cancer Centre of Excellence. He was previously chairperson of the NCRI Lung Cancer Advanced Disease Subgroup and NCRI Brain New-agents Clinical Subgroup and also previous committee member of CTAAC. He sits on several national and international executive cancer committees, grant reviewer for many cancer bodies, manuscript reviewer for many research journals, and member of a number of international cancer societies.
