Cognitive Behaviour Therapist (CBT) PgD.
I am a registered BABCP (British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists), Cognitive Behaviour Therapist working in the North East. I trained at the Institute of Psychiatry, Maudsley Hospital, London. This CBT training by leading CBT experts has given me a comprehensive knowledge of the cognitive therapy treatment model. This grounding has aided my delivery of an effective evidenced based treatment.
CBT helps individuals by maximising learning opportunities with a view to achieving goals and so overcoming problems. My role as the therapist is to facilitate this learning and change. I have an interest in teaching, having achieved a PGCE; I enjoy facilitating learning, i.e. in the classroom, in the delivery of CBT supervision and importantly during therapy itself. My experience of working with individuals in therapy is that by introducing a new way of thinking about your problem we begin working together towards understanding your experience and this allows us to work towards changing it.
I have worked for the NHS in both primary and secondary care settings since 1991 in London and for the past five years in the North East.
In addition to being an experienced CBT therapist I am a General and Mental Health Nurse registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC). I have worked in many general and mental health care settings. This experience lends well to my CBT delivery in that I understand individuals from a more holistic perspective.
I offer one to one therapy for individuals experiencing symptoms of low mood/ depression and anxiety problems such as general anxiety, panic disorder, social phobia, obsessive compulsive disorder, body Dysmorphic disorder, specific phobia, health anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder and bulimia nervosa, sleep problems/ insomnia and anger problems.
I find people interesting and enjoy working with individuals. I experience great satisfaction when individuals achieve their goals and overcome their problems.
