About me

As a neurosurgeon and spinal surgeon I deal with patients with brain and spine problems. These include patients with brain tumours, brain haemorrhage, hydrocephalus, Chiari malformations and facial pain (trigeminal neuralgia).

A special interest of mine is the spine. Spinal conditions include low back pain, slipped disc, sciatica, spinal claudication, spinal stenosis; neck pain and arm pain; numbness in the arms or hands or legs; instability; spinal tumours incl metastatic disease; intradural tumours.

The treatment options do not always include surgery, and in fact the non-surgical options are explored first. Surgical options include decompression, microdiscectomy, fusion, stabilisation; whereas emphasis is placed, where appropriate, on minimally invasive technique and motion preservation.

I have received specialised training in both simple and complex spinal procedures as well as minimally invasive spine surgery. My aim is to treat these conditions non-operatively as far as possible, but where necessary to provide the latest and most advanced surgical expertise. To this effect I have supplemented my training with post-specialisation fellowships in both neurosurgical and orthopaedic centres, both in the UK and abroad, thus obtaining a unique perspective on treatment options and techniques.

Another interest of mine is trigeminal neuralgia (facial pain) where non-operative and operative treatments options are tailored to the individual so as to increase quality of life.
