Mr Niel Kang is a specialist upper limb surgeon with expertise in shoulder, elbow, and complex upper limb trauma surgery, and non-surgical treatments for upper limb soft tissue conditions (tendinopathies). Keyhole (arthroscopic) surgery and joint replacement form a core component of his service.
Having completed a prestigious London orthopaedic training scheme and further specialist training in Cambridge, Niel Kang is a full time Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. In the pursuit of excellence and to equip himself with the most up to date knowledge and skills, Niel Kang has enhanced his skills by learning from world class upper limb experts in Florida, New York at the Hospital for Special Surgery and Mount Sinai Hospital, and centres of excellence in Mumbai, India, Berne Switzerland and Bordeaux, France. He has been the recipient of national awards during the course of his training & post of Consultant.
Niel Kang has been involved in educational instruction throughout his professional career, from bedside teaching to lecturing at international meetings and is 2019 East of England Orthopaedic Trainer of The Year, as well as finalist for National Trauma & Orthopaedic Trainer of the Year 2019. He has also won awards 3 years in a row as an Associate Lecturer to the University of Cambridge School of Medicine. In 2017, Niel has been appointed Director Education for the Higher Surgical Trainees in the East of England Deanery, with the aim of furthering the knowledge of the 71 trainees, so that they can pass their exam and become consultants too.
In addition to being a member of the Orthopaedic Data Evaluation Panel (ODEP - http://www.odep.org.uk/ODEPProcess/PanelMembers.aspx) for shoulder arthroplasty, he is also faculty for & convenes national courses on shoulder and elbow trauma and arthroplasty.
With the aims of continually improving orthopaedic practice, patient outcomes and experience, Niel Kang is collaborating in studies with experts from the fields of biomechanics and telecoms software engineering.
He has numerous peer reviewed publications and presentations on a wide range of orthobiologic, joint replacement, and trauma topics.

Since March 2017 I have enlisted to an online email based surgical outcome scoring (SOS) system that I can enroll patients to their with their informed consent.
This allows myself and the patient to not only compare their personal scores before and after surgery at fixed time intervals, but also anonymously against all other patients that have been enrolled, worldwide.
