About me

Professor Martin O Weickert has been working in leading Universities and University Teaching Hospitals throughout his career in Germany (Augsburg University Teaching Hospital, Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) Munich, 1997 – 2003; Charité University Medicine Berlin, Germany, 2003 – 2009). He received his MD for his thesis “Development of an automatic immuno-assay for the direct measurement of DHEAS in serum” in 1997 from the University of Ulm. He is included in the specialist register for General Internal Medicine (2003) and Endocrinology and Diabetes Mellitus (2007).

In June 2009, Prof Weickert was appointed to the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust as a Consultant Physician for Endocrinology and Diabetes, in order to develop and lead the Neuroendocrine Tumour (NET) and Endocrine Cancer Services (Adrenals, Thyroid) in the Trust.

Prof Weickert has pioneered the NET Services in UHCW. He succeeded with his application to have the ARDEN NET Centre officially recognised as one in eight European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society (ENETS) Centres of Excellence (CoE) in the UK (34 across Europe), as per February 2015. Prof Weickert is the Deputy Lead for the Clinical Research Network (CRN) Metabolic & Endocrine of the West Midlands since April 2014, having been a Specialty Lead of the previous Clinical Local Research Network (CLRN) West Midlands South since April 2012. He has also roles as the specialty lead for Clinical Adverse Events and Care Commissioning Quality teams.
