About me

Pain control an managing difficult to treat symptoms in patients with cancer, both those undergoing active oncology treatment and those with more advanced disease, form the main part of Dr Amsler's work. A comprehensive review of the patients' physical, emotional and social needs is the most important part of her practice.
She also has a substantial interest in symptom control patients who suffer from chronic illnesses other than cancer, such as Parkinson's Disease and other degenerative neurological conditions, chronic cardiopulmonary conditions such as COPD and heart failure as well as advanced renal failure.
Having studied in Aachen Germany, Dr Amsler came to the UK as a junior doctor and soon decided to specialise in Palliative Care. She trained in symptom control and palliative care in various hospitals and hospices in Cardiff, Oxfordshire, Cambridge and Essex. Dr Amsler works as a Consultant in Palliative Care since 2007 at Isabel Hospice in Welwyn Garden City, supporting patients and their families in Hertfordshire.

Areas of interest

- Pain management in patients with non-curative conditions and End Of Life Care;
- Supporting patients with difficult to control symptoms during active treatment eg during chemotherapy;
- Supportive care and symptom management for patients with neurological conditions (eg Parkinson's Disease and Motor Neuron Disease) and other non-malignant illnesses (eg cardiac, respiratory and renal conditions)
