About me

Mr Gary Atkin is a Consultant General Surgeon with a specialist interest in Colorectal surgery. He trained on the North West Thames surgical rotation, and underwent specialist colorectal training at St Mark’s and Chelsea and Westminster Hospitals. He also performed a laparoscopic colorectal fellowship at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital prior to taking up his substantive NHS consultant post.

Areas of interest

As a colorectal surgeon he specialises in the investigation of bowel symptoms such diarrhoea, constipation, rectal bleeding and anal pain or itching. He treats a range of conditions such as bowel cancer, diverticulitis, haemorrhoids, anal fissure, anal fistula, hernias, and gallstones. He has a specialist interest in keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery.

He also performs surgery on children with hernias, undescended testicle and those requiring a circumcision.
