About me

Mr David Smith is a Consultant Colorectal & General Surgeon. I undertook a BSc Honours in Biochemistry before qualifying in Medicine from the University of Liverpool. My Higher Surgical Training was in the Manchester region before an Ethicon sponsored Fellowship in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

I was appointed as Consultant Surgeon at Royal Bolton Hospital in 2012. I am the current lead clinician for the management of colorectal cancer.

My practice covers all areas of general and colorectal surgery. I have a specific interest in laparoscopic colorectal surgery for benign and malignant disease combined with enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS).

I teach junior & senior surgical trainees in all aspects of general, colorectal surgery and endoscopy. I am a member of the regional Deanery training committee.

Areas of interest

Hernia surgery (epigastric, umbilical, inguinal, femoral); Haemorrhoids (rubber band ligation, Haemorroidal Artery Ligation Operation - HALO, stapled haemorrhoidectomy, open haemorrhoidectomy); Anal fissure (Botox injection); Anal fistula; Laparoscopy; Laparoscopic cholecystectomy; Endoscopy (gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy); Polypectomy; Skin lesion excision (sebaceous cyst, lipoma)
