About me

Mr Oates started as a Theatre Technician in the UK and New Zealand. He graduated from Birmingham University Medical School in 1979. He spent 4 years ENT Registrar training in the West Midlands (Queen Elizabeth, Birmingham Children's and Heartlands Hospitals) then 4 years Higher Surgical Training as Senior Registrar (Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham and Derby Royal Infirmary). Appointed Consultant by West Midlands Regional Health Authority 1990.
He is Treasurer and sits on the Executive of the Confederation of European ORL-HNS; Co-Founder and Vice President LION Network, Executive Council LION Foundation; Previous posts; Treasurer European Association ORL-HNS; President YCOHNS; UK and Eire Representative EUFOS (2 terms of office); Specialist Advisory Committee RCS Edinburgh (2 terms in office); West Midlands Representative Council ENT-UK (2 terms in office); West Midlands ACCEA (2 terms in office); Executive Committee Hearing Aid Council (UK Govt appointment)
He was awarded a Gold Clinical Excellence Award in recognition of sustained contribution to clinical ENT, medical education and management, at UK and International level, by the Government Appointed ACCEA in 2006. This award was revalidated in 2011 in recognition sustained and continued performance at this high level.
