About me

Mr Shyamalan (Shyam) is a dedicated Hand, Wrist and Elbow Surgeon at The Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust. He is director of the The Midland Hand Clinic which covers hand surgery to Birmingham Central, Solihull, Sutton, Worcester & Warwick.

While playing rugby at school he broke his scaphoid bone and subsequently required surgery. This started his love of surgery! He focused on orthopaedics and plastics hand surgery for the greater part of his training.

His Hand & Plastics fellowship training was undertaken at three world class units:

Ganga Hospital India, with Raja Sabapathy, Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney, with Professor Tonkin and The Chelsea & Westminster Hospital.

During this time he developed expertise in minimally invasive wrist and hand surgery, including key hole surgery, arthritis and Dupuytren's disease. He also sees complex nerve problems, children’s hand problems, soft tissue hand trauma, including tendon, nerve and arterial repair, and arthritis work, including joint replacement.

Mr Shyamalan's aim is to offer an individualised, expert hand service in the management of pathological hand and wrist conditions, with a multi disciplinary team approach and consideration given to both surgical and non-surgical options.
