Dr Sonia Mangwana is a Consultant Psychiatrist qualified in psychotherapy (Cognitive Analytic Therapy).
She has worked in mental health since 2001, and focussed on mind-body work since 2008. Her main post is in an NHS regional specialist cancer hospital in the North West (Clatterbridge Cancer Centre) where she aims to support patients without the use of medication as far as possible, by integrating psychotherapy routinely into her practice.
Her private work is focussed on psychotherapy and coaching, working with individuals with diverse issues including poor self-esteem, recurrent relationship difficulties, depression, social anxiety, fear of intimacy, eating disorders, problems with professional identity and confidence, abuse, work-related stress, loss of role and function related to disease or ageing or mortality issues, phobias, self-harm, medically unexplained symptoms, coping with cancer/disease or fears around recurrence, and health anxiety, amongst others.
She offers briefer psychological work in the form of mini-therapies and coaching. She is keen to work creatively and responsively to cater to individual needs.
She has a strong interest in our ability to understand the mind and face psychological distress and emotional pain through meditation, psychotherapy and contemplation.
